Using Colours (1)

Colours

First thing to remember when you are writing HTML is that you spell 'color' without the 'u', and is you use a text description of a color, please ensure that you spell it exactly as you see it below.

My best advice is use the Hexadecimal code that you can also see below, to avoid any posibility of 'Browser Confusion', plus you may havel noticed that a couple of the generic names are repeated, so it wouldn't help just to use 'blue' (for example) as you will not be sure which blue your visitor's browser will display!

Remember when you are using Hexadecimal codes to place the 'hash' mark (#) before the code. The chances are the browser will still recognise the colour, but it's always better to be colour safe than sorry.

So how do you use colours? Here's an example using a simple text message. If you are using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) then you can dictate the font colour for the entire page in the <head> section..

If you want to say something in (for example) red, it looks like this:

Here is the text written in black.
Here is the text written in red.

To do this, add the coding <font color="#FF0000">Here is the text written in red</font> You can say <font color="red"> if you want but this can confuse the browser as to which red you want, so it's best to use a Hexadecimal code.

Use any of the colours in the table above to suit the colour of your website, but avoid the use of clashing or over-vibrant colours as they can be off-putting if used to excess!
